Editorial & Data

How this directory is built

Orlando Contractors is a curated index of contractors holding an active state license with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR). We publish this page so homeowners, journalists, and the contractors we list can see exactly where our data comes from and how it's maintained.

Where our data comes from

Every business record in this directory is matched to a public license issued by the Florida DBPR. Licensee data is sourced from DBPR's public licensee database, which publishes the license number, license type, licensee name, and status for every certified contractor in Florida.

Company details — trade category, service area, phone number, and address — are aggregated from a combination of the DBPR record and publicly available business information. We do not accept payment to add a listing, and we do not remove or re-order listings based on payment.

Verification process

  1. Each candidate business is matched to a DBPR license number by name and address.
  2. We confirm the license is active — expired, null, and inactive licenses are excluded from search results.
  3. The license type (e.g. CCC, CGC, CBC) is stored alongside the record so visitors can confirm the trade scope.
  4. Every profile links directly to the DBPR license lookup so you can independently verify the license in one click.

Update cadence

We resync against the DBPR licensee dataset on a quarterly cadence. License status changes made by DBPR between syncs are not reflected until the next refresh. When in doubt, use the "Verify with Florida DBPR" link on any profile to check the license status in real time.

What we do not publish

  • Fabricated reviews or ratings. Rating and review counts are only shown when they come from a source we can attribute.
  • Editorial rankings. Listings are ordered by featured status and rating — never by advertiser spend.
  • Personal information about the license holder beyond what DBPR publishes.

Corrections & claims

If you are the license holder for a listed business and want to update, correct, or remove information, use the claim this listing flow. Requests to correct factual errors are prioritized ahead of feature requests.
